Single-Family Detached Home: Honourable Mention
Project Name: Roscoe Home

Michael Lynch and Elizabeth Roscoe

Our home is completely wheelchair accessible. It includes a ramped entrance, an accessible washroom, wide doorways and halls and levered door handles. There are also two concrete ramps to access the swimming pool. Neither of the occupants need any of these amenities, but we built them so that any mobility challenged person could visit us.

In addition to the above noted aspects, the accessible bathroom has a wheel-under sink, grab bars, turning space and a transfer seat and handheld shower for the tub. There are no carpets in the house, which makes it easier to move around with a wheelchair. All the toilets are high and all have grab bars. There is a portable metal ramp to access the back deck by wheelchair.  In addition to being accessible the house is uniquely energy efficient, using solar, geo-thermal and wind resources. It is also located on a beautiful ocean front lot in a scenic rural area of Nova Scotia. It was constructed in 2010.
